This spectacular Italian garden that begin from the hill behind Palazzo Pitti was designed in 1550 by Tribolo. The works started when Cosimo I de' Medici and his wife Eleonora of Toledo decided to build their new palace in this area. The garden, rich of sculptures to the point that itcould be regarded as open-air museum, was enriched by works of Giogioi Vasari, (1554-1561), Bartolomeo Ammannati and Bernard Bontalenti.


BARDINI GARDEN

The Bardini garden of Florence, the epitome of Italian style gardens, offers a unique panorama on the city. It re-opened only recently to visits and visitors after a 40 years long restoration. The three hectares area is full of unexpected naturalistic surprises with baroque steps, a wood, an orchard area planted with fruit trees and an Anglo-Chinese style garden.

The name Cascine derived from the many granaries which used to be in this area. At the beginning, there was only the hunting lodge, residence of the Medici family. In the 19 th century it was open to the public by the Grand Duchess Elisa . A long alley was open right down the Arno river and the passage that run along the river was made carriageable way.
Afterwards the park was enriched with sport equipment and so lost its initial character of a romantic mood.
At present, it offers numerous facilities such as: swimming pool, riding school, racetrack, bar, hiring bicycles, ball court, and University Faculty of Agriculture.

ROSES GARDEN
The Rose Garden is located on the slopes of the hill below Piazzale Michelangelo on the left side of Arno river. It was designed by Giuseppe Poggi and opened in 1895 on the occasion of the “Belle Arti” celebration to offer a wonderful view of the town.

The Villa castello was one of the most ancient country residence of the Medici family who owned it since 1477. Cosimo I was always particularly fond of the villa and payed special attention to the garden, designed in 1538 to celebrate his power through symbolism of statues, fountains and caves.
Currently, the Villa is not open to visitors, but only the garden, rich of citrus fruits, rare plants and enriched with antique and renaissance sculptures. The grotto af the Animals, an artificial grotto with exotic and common animals, animated with great water games no long in function is truly facinating. A special permission is necessary to see the Secret Garden.

If you are in Florence in May and you go for a walk in the Colli Avenue, it is strongly advised to visit this garden .
The garden counts more than 2,500 varieties of irises, a flower that has symbolized the city since 1251. Park and garden are open, to see the Secret Garden ask the keeper on site.

The entry to the "Garden of Semplici" is in Pier Antonio Micheli street.
Opening hours 9,00-13,00 except Saturdays and Sundays, free for children under six, adults older than 65.

Since the middle ages “semplici” were medical plants grown in many garden of the city.
The original layout was designed in the 17th century by Niccolò Pericoli called "il Tribolo" at the requests of the Duke of Medici Cosimo I and the selection of plants to the botanist Luca Ghini, who had already founded the Botanical Gardens of Pisa..
its direction was assigned to the Florentine Botanical Society, which was transferred in 1783 to the "Accademia dei Georgofili" and was referred to as "Agricultural experimental garden",.
In 19th century the Garden was opened to visitors.
Its fame is specially due to its almost one century old collection of azaleas, that always draw the attention of a large number of visitors during the flowering period.

Villa Favard, at Rovezzano has a large park with naturalistic path among holms, oaks, linden, pines, and cedar trees from Libanon.
On the eastern part the park is equipped with fitness facilities.
