The Paleontology and Geology Museum is the most important Museum of its kind in Italy and houses almost three hundreds thousands fossils’ finds of vertebrates, uninvertebrates, plants and rock samples.
Like most part of Florentine Collections, the nucleus of the paleontology and geology collections belonged to the Medici and Lorena families. Afterwards, the collection was enriched with numerous donations and now exhibit also a rich collection of vertebrates (remarkable the specimens of the upper Valdarno). I is worth to mentioning the anthropoid monkey from the Maremma, the Mesozoic reptiles marks and the non-flying birds from New Zeland.
