Repubblica Square
Vast and squared, it is the hearth of the city. It was opened in the 19th century after the demolition of the ancient mediaeval centre. Still now one feels the old similarity of the existing roads and the criss-cross of the ancient Roman Florence.
The sole evidence of such ancient origins is the column of abundance rising at the road cross of Cardo col Decumano of Roman Florence.
The road Cardo overlaps with Roma, Calimala, and Por Santa Maria streets, while the Decumano coincides with Corso, Speziali and Strozzi streets.
The terraces of the historical bars of the city such as Le Giubbe Rosse and the Concerto Café Paszkowsky, open widely where artists and literary men have always gathered.
